Potpourri

Potpourri

Nothing brings the anticipation of summer quite like one of Burroughs’s most sacred and beloved traditions: Potpourri! Our annual fundraiser took place from 7:30 am to 1:00 pm, Saturday, April 27, in the JBS Field House. Over a hundred student and parent volunteers worked to transform the field house into the biggest garage sale of the year. The space was quickly filled to the brim with clothes, toys, furniture, and all sorts of knick-knacks, generously donated by 500 different families within the Burroughs community. Potpourri also featured items collected throughout the school year from the JBS lost and found.

Even though the all-out Potpourri sale didn’t start until Thursday, the entire week was filled with pre-Potpourri excitement. During assembly, students had a chance to win Potpourri vouchers from daily raffle and got a first look at the Potpourri fashion selection, thanks to the fashion show. The early Potpourri sales included Recycled Rags, the ultimate place to find
Burroughs apparel and quality t-shirts, and the Book Sale, where the junior and senior commons turned into a book-lover’s dream.  Another yearly favorite was the Potpourri restaurant; students enjoyed catered foods, such as Chipotle. For dessert, students splurged on ice cream and cotton candy stations in the quad. There they joined the enthusiastic frenzy of Potpourri by joining a game of four square or spikeball.

Not only does Potpourri give us the unique experience of shopping for cool and exciting items, it presents us with the amazing opportunity to give back as a community. On Saturday, people within the St. Louis community were able to go to Potpourri and shop for a variety of goods at an affordable price. Potpourri represents the true giving and caring nature of our community and will forever be a favorite Burroughs tradition.
