JBS Track Thrives at State
June 5, 2018
The John Burroughs girls and boys track teams both traveled to Jefferson City High to compete in the state high school track meets on May 25 and 26. The girls’ team captured the Class 3 state title, edging out runner-up Cardinal Ritter by 3 points. The state championship came down to the 1600 meter relay. Burroughs finished second to Ritter in the relay, securing just enough points to clinch the trophy. It was the second time in four years that the girls’ team won has won the state championship.
The boys’ team followed up last season, in which they won the Class 3 state title, with a ninth-place finish. The highlight of their meet was provided by none other than standout Brandon Miller ’20. He set the all-class state record in the 800-meter race when he finished in 1:49.55, breaking a record which had stood for more than 30 years. Miller, who also holds multiple world records for his age group, competed in and won the prestigious Festival of Miles on May 31.
