Summer Blurbs

Peter Farley, 2022:
“My summer was fun, exciting, and most of all, fast. My favorite thing that I did was go to Spain in the end of July. Since I went with an old friend who used to live in St. Louis but moved to Spain, I got to live the local life instead of the ‘touristy’ life. It was a very fun trip, and I got to learn a lot about the culture in Spain. Other than that, I felt like just yesterday I was leaving school, ready to start summer. Now, although I am not ready to have nightly homework and weekly tests, I am excited to see my friends again at school.”
Ryan Fogarty, 2022:
“Over the summer, I attended two weeks of computer/video game camp at WashU, called iD tech. I learned to design video games using Unreal Engine, and using the Unity engine and an Oculus Go VR headset.”
Isabella Rosario Blake, 2021:
“This summer I started by going on a trip in June for about 20 days with Cultural Leadership, a local nonprofit that takes rising juniors and seniors on what they call a ‘Transformational Journey,’ which they prepare us for about a year before. We started in New York and went down the East Coast to D.C., Atlanta, even Birmingham, AL, and finally we went back up to Memphis and St. Louis. Then I came back to St. Louis for most of July and helped organize an immigration vigil, and in late July I went to the ACLU Advocacy Institute in Washington D.C., which was really interesting; I worked … with high schoolers from all over the country.”
Liam Taylor, 2022:
“I spent the summer in Maine with my family for two months. Since we were there for so long, every couple of weeks my mom would have a friend over. The most memorable time I had this summer was with one of her friend’s kids. This little girl was around seven and she was quite the character. She loved calling me and my brother her “daddies” and crawling onto our shoulders at breakfast. I remember one time when everyone was at the beach, she made me walk all the way back to the house with her so I could spread Nutella on her bread. A true Queen B if you ask me.”
Amy Phillips, 2020:
“[A highlight of mine is when] I had so much fun in DC, really diving into the world of politics at George Washington University’s political communication course for two weeks. It’s exhilarating getting to meet the people that shape so much of the country.”
Alice Crowley, 2024:
“One thing I especially enjoyed this summer was my family’s annual week long reunion at the Ozarks. This week is always extremely fun and one of [the] highlights of the summer every year.  One unique thing we always do at our family reunion is play competitive tournaments, and if you are the champion, you get a trophy. This year my sister and I won the badminton tournament, which is a highly-coveted championship. And that was definitely a highlight.”
Rohan Kumaran, 2021:
“This past summer I went on a trip to Italy, Switzerland, France. I bought a pair of socks with a picture of the Colosseum printed on them; despite being the largest size available, they were a little too small for me (if interested in my socks, drop prices at [email protected] size 11, worn once). When I got back, I went to two different residential summer programs–one for debate, and the other for a business program. By traveling to new places and participating in different programs to explore my interests, I got to experience new parts of the world and try new activities. I’m glad I got to both travel and partake in different programs, while still having time to relax at home, volunteer, hang out with friends, listen to music, and watch TV.
